If you had all the money in the world to renovate the Fletschhornhütte, what features would you add to it?
"That's a good question! Honestly, given how long the hike or ski tour is up to the Fletschhornhütte, I would be delighted to find a preheated jacuzzi ready for me whenever I go up there. Combined with the views around this would be the best spa in the world."
Which three items would you never leave at home on a day out in the mountains?
"My phone, compass and a good jacket. After seeing the SRF documentary on the Haute Route Accident, I will never rely solely on one means of checking my position or direction. In this way I can check my own route, and have a compass when the phone fails during a whiteout."
Sunrise or sunset?
"I am more of an evening person, so for me definitely sunset. I also really enjoy the slow fading of the day I had and how that makes me think about what I did that day."
What is an embarrassing thing which happened to you in the mountains and you never told anyone about it?
"Well, this one I have told others about. Fortunately the embarrassment has faded and it is only funny. Once I was on the ridge route to Cape au Moine from Col de Jaman. On this route you follow a ridge and do several rappels. On the first rappel, I get ready to put my belay/rappel device. While installing the device, my friend says something and I get momentarily distracted. The next thing I hear is CLING, cling, cli…"
Which mountain will you definitely go back within the next few years, and why?
"Not a high mountain by all means, but I really love the muddy ridge that reaches up to the Arpelistock and the views it offers of Wallis and the glaciers around. While the walk is easy, it is a satisfying experience to go up. As one ascents from the highland – that looks straight out of Scotland – and enter a rough black alpine terrain, one can look around in wonder."
